Alexa Schmid: From Theater Stages to Radio City Lights

For Alexa Schmid, "Practice makes progress" quote is more than just a mantra—it’s a lifestyle. At just 17 years old, the Sandy Hook, Connecticut native has already built a resume that rivals dancers twice her age. From the moment she stepped into a dance studio at two and a half years old, Alexa’s path has been marked by dedication, discipline, and an unwavering love for the art. By the age of four, she was already immersed in competitive dance, developing the drive and work ethic that would carry her through years of training, travel, and transformation. But Alexa’s story doesn’t stop at competition stages—it stretches into Broadway-backed theatre, mentorship, modeling, teaching, and leadership.

Between the ages of 6 and 11, Alexa spent her summers performing with New Arts (12/14 Foundation), a local theater company that introduced her to the world of professional stagecraft. Over the course of 11 productions, she trained alongside Broadway professionals, sharpening her performance skills in acting, singing, and of course, dance. These experiences led her to perform at 5 Below in NYC and on the legendary stage of Radio City Music Hall during We Day—an unforgettable moment that affirmed her place in the spotlight. Currently, Alexa is a standout member of ASH The Company and Heat Force, two elite convention companies that tour across the U.S. Not only does she train intensively, but she also works backstage, assists classes, and takes bonus training sessions from top-tier instructors, maximizing every moment of the convention experience. Whenever possible, Alexa seeks out classes and private coaching in New York City and Los Angeles, diving into new styles and absorbing inspiration from some of the most creative minds in the industry. Her commitment to versatility is impressive—her training spans ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, tap, hip hop, jazz funk, heels, Bollywood, African, ballroom, waacking, and vogue. She’s also a member of her high school dance team, where she adds pom technique to her already dynamic list of skills. But Alexa isn’t just a student—she’s a mentor in the making. At her home studio, she teaches and choreographs, assists younger dancers, and helps clean solos and group routines during competition season. Her leadership is quiet but powerful—built on kindness, patience, and a deep love for the art.

Alexa’s journey has been shaped by her involvement in two prestigious mentorships: Blake McGrath’s Pre-Professional Program and The Business of Dance Mentorship with Menina Fortunato.

Through these programs, she’s gained career insight, industry access, and personal growth—and, perhaps most importantly, a deeper understanding of how to navigate her future with confidence. These mentorships have led to exciting new ventures—most recently, Alexa had the opportunity to walk in New York Fashion Week for Kayzie Couture, showcasing not just her talent, but her professionalism and poise.
